Horses naturally graze for food, wandering over a pasture eating small amounts forage as they look for the next bite to eat. They eat virtually all day and night, resting for a few minutes at a time. A horse's digestive system expects this constant flow of food, and if they go without it for any length of time they are subject to stress, burning gastric acid and insulin spikes which can lead to ulcers, colic and other health issues. But giving a horse unlimited access to hay bales can lead to gorging and waste.
Hay nets simulate a slow feed environment preventing a horse from overeating and creating waste. These nets slow the horse down to a natural pace improving digestion, calming aggressive behavior, reducing herd stress, and alleviating boredom and unwanted stable vices. They prevent serious health problems caused by overeating and burrowing into the center of the bale.
